  105. DEMO DISTRIBUTION
  106. You may distribute the non-registered shareware version of 
  107. Operation: Inner Space to others, but if you distribute Inner
  108. Space for direct or indirect profit by any means, you must first contact 
  109. Software Dynamics, inc. In all cases, you must abide by the following 
  110. to distribute Inner Space:
  111. 1) You may only distribute a non-registered shareware version.
  112. 2) You must clearly show that the copy of Inner Space is unregistered 
  113. shareware and that Software Dynamics, inc is the sole owner of all 
  114. copyright and interest in the game.
  115. 3) You must include all files originally in this package.
  116.  
  117. INSTALLING
  118. You must first be in the Windows environment to install Inner Space.
  119. A) If you receive Inner Space as a compressed INSPACE.ZIP file:
  120.     1) Unzip INSPACE.ZIP in a temporary directory. If INSPACE.ZIP is on 
  121.     a CD or a floppy disk, you will need to first copy it to a temporary 
  122.     directory that you create on your hard disk.
  123.     2) Run SETUP.EXE, the Inner Space installer.  
  124.     3) Install Inner Space to a new directory (C:\SPACE by default) or 
  125.     over an existing copy of Inner Space to upgrade it.
  126. B) If you receive Inner Space on floppy disk or CD as a group of files 
  127. including SETUP.EXE:
  128.     1) Run SETUP.EXE, the Inner Space installer.  
  129.     2) Install Inner Space to a new directory (C:\SPACE by default) or 
  130.     over an existing copy of Inner Space to upgrade it.

  132. STARTING TO PLAY
  133. Run Inner Space (INSPACE.EXE) from Windows.  During the game intro, press 
  134. 'ESC' to start a new game. Select a ship to fly into Inner Space.  To start
  135. playing, just use the arrow keys (Thrust=UP, Turn=LEFT, RIGHT, Brake=DOWN). 
  136. Use Shift or SPACEBAR to shoot. Use Alt-X to exit the game. For more information 
  137. about the game, see the online help (press F1 or F2).

  139. SCREEN SAVERS 
  140. Inner Space works as a configurable screen saver so that a 
  141. changing game demonstration can be your screen saving display. 
  142.  
  143. SHIP FACTORY
  144. With the Ship Factory, you can compare the characteristics of all the ships 
  145. in the game and also make custom ships for use in Inner Space!
  146.  
  147. TECH SUPPORT
  148. We provide tech suppport by email, fax, and regular mail. Bugs reported via 
  149. email receive top priority and make it easiest both for you to give us specific 
  150. information on the problem and for us to get back to you in a timely manner. 
  151.  
  152. NOTE: Before trying anything else, please check to see if there is a newer update 
  153. to Inner Space that might fix the problem. Always check the version number
  154. on your copy of the game before contacting us. Hit Alt-G in game for version number.

  157. 1) SOFTWARE DYNAMICS GAMEWORLD is our website and has the latest Inner Space updates, 
  158. tech support info, and a link to send email to our tech dept. Our website is

  161. 2) On COMPUSERVE, you can visit our support forum (GO GAMDPUB, Software Dynamics section)
  162. for updates and tech information.

  164. Keeping users happy with the game is top priority. We do not make any money 
  165. when you download or try the game, only if you choose to order it and recommend
  166. that your friends order it, too. Please appreciate that it took years to 
  167. develop the game and we work hard all the time to test and improve it, as 
  168. well as field questions from users.
  169.  
  170. We're really sorry when anyone experiences a problem with the game and we'll
  171. work hard to fix it. Before releasing any version of Inner Space, we rigorously 
  172. test it. Some users still experience problems because there are so many 
  173. combinations of computers, video drivers, sound drivers, and operating 
  174. system versions, and there are so many things you could do in the game.  
  175.  
  176. If you report a bug to us, we will do our best to fix it, but keep in mind
  177. that the problem may occur because of an incompatible sound or video card, 
  178. some other software running on your computer, or it could be a bug
  179. that depends on a subtle sequence of events. We will be more inclined and 
  180. more capable to fix your bug if you send the bug report by email and tell 
  181. us all the details about what you did in the game, exactly where it crashed, 
  182. and provide as much detail as possible about your computer.
  183.  
  184. A user might tell us "I ran it and it crashed." Such a bug report doesn't 
  185. help us fix it.  The user might later indicate that what they meant was that 
  186. 1 time out of 1000, the game crashed right after selecting a ship in the intro. 
  187. With that, we have a specific part of the game to look at, but it's hard to 
  188. repeat the problem.  If the user told us a sequence of events that would make 
  189. it crash every time, we could probably repeat the problem here.  Any problem we 
  190. can repeat, we can and will fix.
  191.  
  192. Please do not call our order line or any resellers to report bugs. 
  193. The order line operators cannot give technical help. We will do everything 
  194. possible to fix reported bugs, especially when users are
  195. considerate and provide the information we need to work on a fix.  
  196.  
  197.  
  198. REGISTERED USERS
  199. If you are updating a registered copy of the game, please follow the install
  200. instructions.  The updater should update the game to the latest version and 
  201. preserve the registered status of the game.
  202.  
  203. However, we do not guarantee that specific upgrades will work for all
  204. users.  After installing the upgrade, if the game seems to be unregistered, 
  205. reinstall from your master disk and the game should be registered again.  
  206. Try to update it again. If the updater again makes the game unregistered, 
  207. reinstall from your master disk and do not try the update again.  In such 
  208. a case, we will replace your master disk for free, provided you pay the 
  209. shipping cost to send out a new master disk with the latest version ($4 USD).
  210.  
  211. GP FAULTS
  212. If the game halts with an error such as a General Protection Fault, the 
  213. game will probably not run correctly until you restart Windows. The problem
  214. might have to do with memory, the video driver or some other software that
  215. is running. As with any bug, always try to reproduce it to verify the problem. 
  216. To see if Windows has enough memory, please check that Windows is set up to 
  217. use at least 2Mb of virtual memory.  To see or change Virtual Memory settings, 
  218. open the "386 Enhanced" item from the Windows Control Panel (CONTROL.EXE).
  219.  
  220. VIDEO DRIVERS
  221. There may be problems with some video cards. We can devise workarounds for 
  222. such cards if we know about the problem. If there is a crash or error when 
  223. the game is loading graphics, please try to reproduce the problem and tell 
  224. us so that we can get working on a fix. 
  225.  
  226. NEW WINDOWS VERSIONS
  227. Inner Space is tested with the current commercial Windows versions. However, 
  228. new prerelease versions of Windows may not be completely compatible with older 
  229. versions and that can cause problems.  Inner Space works well 
  230. with Windows 95 generally, but some sound or video drivers need to be updated 
  231. to work properly with Win 95. If the sound or video drivers are out of date, 
  232. the game could be adversely affected.  Prerelease Win versions are experimental. 
  233.  
  234. MIDI MUSIC
  235. If Inner Space's music has incorrect or missing instruments, check your MIDI 
  236. mapper settings (in Windows Control Panel).  For Enhanced midi sound cards, use 
  237. channels 1-10, Basic midi sound cards use channels 11-16.
  238.  
  239. NO SOUND
  240. You need a Windows-compatible sound card to hear Inner Space's audio.  If 
  241. you have a sound card that works with other Windows apps, but don't hear any
  242. audio in Inner Space, you may have an older sound card which might not 
  243. report itself correctly to Windows.  Therefore, to force Inner Space to play 
  244. audio, add "AllowSound=1" to your [Inner Space] section of INSPACE.INI (in 
  245. your Windows directory).
  246.  
  247. VARIOUS SOUND PROBLEMS
  248. Inner Space uses the Windows wavemixer to play up to 8 sounds at once.  The
  249. wavemixer is from Microsoft and not compatible with all systems.  If you get
  250. an error referencing wavemix or the sounds start and stop in a jerky way, set
  251. the MixChannels to 1 (in Game Setup, Audio subdialog) so that sound is played
  252. without using the wavemixer.

  254. DEINSTALLING
  255. If you need to deinstall Inner Space, just delete the Inner Space directory and
  256. all files and subdirectories of it (C:\SPACE by default).  Also, make sure Inner
  257. Space is not set as the screen saver (in Windows Control Panel).  Set the screen
  258. saver to "None" or any other saver display to keep Windows from trying to use 
  259. Inner Space as a screen saver.
